Due to MySpace server modifications, this hack to remove your marital status no longer works
How to remove your marital status from MySpace
Personal information, by default, is really nobody's business unless you want it to be, that's why it's called personal information.
Here is a relatively clean and easy way of removing your marital status from a MySpace page using Firefox and the Firefox Web Developer extension:
- This whole method doesn't work anymore, in case you didn't read the big message at the top of the screen.
- Install Firefox if you are not using it already. This is probably a good idea in general -- if you're already using it, you can skip this step
- Install the Firefox Web Developer extension and restart Firefox when prompted. We will need this later
- Go to your MySpace "home", log in, and select Edit Profile
- Select the Background & Lifestyle section (this is where your marital status resides)
- Select the 'Tools' menu in Firefox (up top by File, Edit, etc) and go to Web Developer -> Forms -> Clear Radio Buttons
- Re-select all the radio buttons on the Background & Lifestyle page for whatever preferences you wish, but do not touch the one regarding marital status. Then, Save All Changes
- Answer the Captcha thing (if you are prompted with one) and remember to not put a space between the letters
- You're done. Go check it out
Note: If you ever decide to edit this information again, you will have to repeat this process (and have the web developer extension installed to do so) because MySpace stubbornly pre-selects "single" in your marital status with subsequent edits. Tom obviously has no confidence in the state of your relationship.
There are various other ways to do it, but this is probably the most straightforward.
